The three of us! Today was another beautiful day in Kazakhstan. The trees are budding, flowers are beginning to come up, and the ice is only left in areas where the sun doesnt shine directly. The photographer came to the orphanage to take passport photos of the babies today, as well as our first "family photo" for the judge when we go to court.
We went to the market today for Zhanna to buy a present for her new baby--as well as one for her...a ball to bowl with!! She spent the afternoon after her nap bowling with Grammy with the water bottles, then switched to basketball with the clothes hamper when Grammy got tired of helping set up the bottles.
I go back to the orphanage for the afternoon visit from 4pm to 6pm, where I feed Madina and play some more. Today there was a puppet show put on by some of the staff at the baby house for the older children, 3-4 years old. Zhanna missed that, but has not really missed very much of anything else here!! Tomorrow we will have our usual day, with two visits to the baby house...will try for more photos. It takes almost 30 min to download one photo, and I keep losing connection, but will keep trying!

Dont know if I gave you this hint, but to save $$ uploading since you pay by the minute for dialup-I wrote my blog text in a word document THEN signed onto the internet and uploaded the text and photos. Yes, they do take a long time, and depending on what time of day you do it , it can take longer.
How is the hotel and crib?
Glad to finally see a photo of you and the gals. Yea. We cant wait to meet her.
Christine, Z and Grandma,
Beautiful picture today. You all look very happy. Time is moving quickly. It has almost been a week. It will be over before you know it. Even though it is not suppose to be, Elliott and I always looked at our adoption trips as vacations because there was never a dull moment, everything was new and interesting, and it was the last time we had peace and quiet before the routine of real life set in. Being in Kaz. was like camping with ammenities. I don't know if Elliott ever told you his story about almost being arrested in Kaz. for taking a walk later at night 10PM. Never go anywhere without a passport. He was lucky he had his that night.
I'm envious of the weather you've been having. Right now it is 1:15 bright, sunshiny and beautiful tonight we are looking at a wintery mix again followed by rain all day Friday.
Matt is having his den meeting at our house tomorrow night. Only about 8 boys some with dads. That should be interesting. Matt's had a tough week so we're hoping that he can get his act together. He had a very good day yesterday. It must have been the magic of sleeping in my PJs.
Katy is now taking her turn at being cranky. Nothing like a miserable little girl. She cried this morning because Hannah Montana wasn't on the Disney site. They had the Jonas Brothers music videos today. She doesn't understand that everyday they change. Just wait Christine, Z only has a couple years until she's totally infatuated with the next Disney wonder child. Katy saves up all her allowance to by anything Hannah Montana. I love allowance. I don't have to say no anymore. Now I say, "You can get it when you've saved enough money." By that time she wants something else.
What is your schedule like? Have they given you a court date yet? I know things change all the time. Is the chocolate store still by the mall? That use to be our favorite place to go. Although the food is different, I think Elliott and I were the only 2 that never lost any wait on our trips. We were always cautiously adventurous when it came to food.
Talk to you tomorrow.
Lisa
Chris, what a happy bunch, I can't wait till you get home and we can get Boonie and the 3 of you together. How beautiful life is. It will be so much fun for Zhanna to have someone to play with. Media will give Zhanna a run for her money.
Take Care,
Beth
How is everyone doing with sleep? Are you all acclamated to the time? How is Madina responding to you and the family? Miss you. Tell Zhanna I said Hi. Love, Ahmma
congrat, another real beauty. You will have trouble with the boys, HAHAHA. can't wait for you 3 (4=grammy) to get back. you''re doing very well w/pics, see ya soon love dee
Beautiful photo! Zhanna looks to be settling in with things. And Madina looks a bit like she doesn't quite know what's happened -- but it's good! And Mama looks so content. A dream come true, right?
Like everyone, I'm just dying to meet Madina and see Zhanna be a big sister in person.
Stefanie
great photo! they look like sisters already. Sounds like you are adjusting well.
Are there other CAH adoptive parents there?
How are Tamara and Tolik? Please say hello from me and Arman.
I appreciate your patience with uploading photos to the blog -- I hope I never have to hear that dial-up connection sound again!
Glad to hear you are enjoying the weather...
cindy and arman
Hey Chris
You look great with your daughters! Things here are good- we are planning on attending a playgroup at Heather's this sunday- we will certainly be talking about you then so don't worry if your ears start ringing! I will host one in two weeks during our spring break and we will be talking about you there too!!! (it is only because we miss you and Zhanna!!)
Supposed to have cold rain showers tomorrow....the weather can't make up its mind.. spring has not sprung here as of yet! (although the ice on top of the pool has melted.. always a good sign!)
Hope you are enjoying your time- have you been able to shop yet? If you get the chance ask the caregivers if they would write a sentence or two about Vika (I would like to put it inher life book)(esp. Valerie(the lady who always wore purple- she was super nice!)
It is 10:30 NY time- off to bed soon- (actually going to watch Two and ahalf men)
Kim
What a beautiful picture - so much happiness...makes me want to go for #6!!! Enjoy
Hard to believe you only left 1 week ago today. I know time goes really fast and really slow at the same time when you're over there. I remember the first few days flew, the next 14 dragged and the last couple flew.
Still no solutions here with the kiddo situation. I keep praying for a miracle. I know that when I die, I will definately go to heaven after all of this!
Hello all!
It is so great to see the three of you together. We will miss you at playgroup on Sunday. I know Anna will be wondering where her friend Zhanna is. She tried to type Zhanna a message the other day but wound up crashing my mail program :-)
For the photos - I'm not sure what is on your laptop but if you open them with paint, there is an option under "image" called "stretch/skew." If you put in a smaller number for both horizontal & vertical (something like 20% for each), it will make the photo use much less space. Just remember to "save as" so you don't overwrite the original picture.
I have a house full of crazy girls playing Wii. We've been back to the doctor AGAIN for a possible scratched eye (no scratch found). I think the school nurse just has to be overly cautious. Anna has decided that it is time to wear bathing suits even though it's still pretty nippy outside. I guess the bathing suit is a step up from underwear and an undershirt.
I'm off to make dinner now. I hope you are enjoying your visit. I would love to be in Karaganda without inches of ice packed onto the sidewalks. Hug those beautiful girls for me.
- Heather
